Life can be hectic. Whether you’re married with kids, a single parent or anything in between, your time is likely at a premium.

If you’re looking for a way to spend more time with your family, look no further than your back yard.

Your hot tub is the ideal place to unwind together after a long day of work and school. It’s also the ideal way to relax on the weekends.

Your hot tub can be a lot of fun whether you have young children or teens.

To make the experience safe and enjoyable, here are a few things to keep in mind.

For Children

Ideal Temperature

If your kids are under the age of 12, there are a few safety factors to keep in mind. Children don’t have the same ability to cool themselves down by sweating that teens and adults have. And that can make it easy for them to overheat.

That’s why the water in your spa should be set at a maximum of 98°F when you’re taking a dip with the kids. If that’s too cool for you, have the kids do partial immersion on your hot tub’s bench or jump seat.

Fun Factor

If you have young kids, they may not want to sit around in the hot tub for 20 minutes. You can easily make spa time more appealing with some simple games such as musical jets (inspired by the classic musical chairs), rubber duck races or pass the bottle, a game where you hold and pass the bottle neck-to-neck.

If you prefer more sedate games, try ‘I Spy,’ ‘Who am I?’ or pick a category and quiz each other.

For Teens

Teens will be less interested in playing games, but you can still make spa time interesting.

As children get older and enter their teen years, they have to deal with a lot of stress and anxiety. Make spa time a therapeutic experience for you and your teens.

Let them take turns making a playlist for spa time and, if you have aromatherapy technology, let them pick out their favorite scents. You can even make it a bit of a party with snacks like fruit, veggies, cheese and cool drinks.

Let them know spa time is the perfect time to catch up and learn about one another’s days as a family unit. But, it’s also a good time to share confidences one-on-one. If one of your teens seems stressed, schedule a spa date for the two of you to talk in the relaxing atmosphere of your spa.

Your hot tub is a great place to spend time with your kids. Whether you’re having fun playing games, having a spa party or are using the time to talk, your spa will leave you with memories for years to come.
